A 24-year-old worker was sentenced to six years in prison. He had homosexual contacts. The case was very fast: arrest, trial, sentence in ten days.

The man was arrested under a new law. This law makes homosexual acts illegal. Court records show he had no good defence. His lawyer had little time to prepare. The trial lasted only a few hours.

Human rights organisations are shocked by the speed. They say the right to a fair trial was not respected. The sentence raises questions about the new law. It also raises questions about court independence.

It is unclear which country this case is in. Several countries recently made laws against homosexual relationships. This case shows how fast such laws can be used. There are no safeguards.
