More gay, lesbian and transgender people seek help from a 'queer life coach'. These coaches help you come out, date and find your community. The idea sounds good, but experiences vary widely.

What does such a coach do? They guide you through difficult moments in your LGBTQ+ life. Think about talking with parents, your first date or finding understanding friends. For some people this is essential. They feel less alone and get concrete tips.

Yet not all coaches are equally good. Some lack official training or experience. The costs add up quickly. One session costs between 50 and 200 euros. Honestly: much of what they do you can find online or discuss with friends.

Want to try such a coach? First check the background and experiences of others. Ask about their certificates. Make sure you feel good with the person. A good match is most important. A coach can help you, but you create real change yourself.
