Major Minnesota Children's Hospital Resumes Gender-Related Care
Minnesota restarts gender-related care for minors after a federal judge blocked a Trump executive order. The state's largest children's hospital had suspended services in February.
Minnesota's largest children's hospital group is resuming gender-related care for minors. This follows a federal judge blocking Trump's attempt to declare this treatment unsafe.
Children's Minnesota suspended services in February. This occurred after the health secretary issued guidance stating this care falls outside medical standards. The hospital resumed services on 6 April following Judge Mustafa Kasubhai's ruling. He stated the government had exceeded its authority. In Minnesota, this care remains legal under state law.
"We want to provide medically sound care to transgender and gender-diverse young people," said Children's Minnesota. "This aligns with our mission to help families raise healthier children."
The US government attempted this year to stop funding this care. President Trump signed an order allowing federal funding to hospitals to be cut. This threatens to reduce services nationwide, including in states where care is legally permitted. Doctors and advocates for transgender youth warn hospitals may need to cut essential treatments.
